CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) — A bill has been passed by the legislature to continue the Volunteer Fire Department Workers’ Compensation Premium Subsidy Fund.
Senate Bill 1010 continues the program that helps volunteer fire departments pay workers’ compensation costs.
The current bill extends the fund through fiscal year 2020. The program would’ve been dissolved on June 30 if the bill wasn’t passed.
The fund was established in 2011 and has been re-authorized and refunded every year since.
“The local volunteer fire departments statewide depend on this program,” tate Auditor John McCuskey said. “And I believe it is everyone’s intent to continue to assist these first responders who voluntarily risk their lives for the citizens in their communities.”
